The First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi is a landmark in the calendar of Corpus Christi. It was formulated on the 17th of August 1878, in the house of S.T.Foster, where a few local people met up and decided to organize the first Baptist Church.
Initially, the church was under the leadership of a noted Baptist pioneer missionary, Rev J.W.D.Creath, along with a team of eight charter people. A few years later, the congregation united with the Blanco Baptist Association.
Initially a blacksmith shop served as the place for the worship services of the church and later a new place was constituted on 23rd March, 1950 at the Ocean Drive.
From the time of formation of Corpus Christi, to the present day, the First Baptist Church has been an integral part of the development of the city.
It has been instrumental in forming many local congregations, supporting various Baptist programs and carrying out many community service activities.
Few of the renowned people who have been a part of the First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi include Dr. C.E.Hereford, Rev. R.O.Cawker, Dr. D.B.South, Dr. J.M.Carroll etc. All these people have been instrumental to the growth of the church and in turn in the development of the city. |
